1972, Willamette Purchases Hunt Lumber (HLC-D)

Willamette Industries, Inc. has completed the purchase of Hunt Lumber Company of Louisiana it was announced Thursday by William Swindells, Chairman of the Board of Willamette.

Terms of the acquisition called for an exchange of 412,000 shares of Willamette common stock valued at about nine million dollars. Hunt’s sales for fiscal 1972 are estimated at $12.1 million.

Principal assets acquired in the purchase include three sawmills with an annual lumber production of more than 130 million board feet; an interest with Willamatte in large plywood and particle board operations in Louisiana; and 15,200 acres of timberland intermingled with Willamette holdings in northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas.

The mills are located at Zwolle, Columbia and Dodson, La. The change in ownership will not effect the operations of the mills and plants which will continue under the Hunt Lumber Co. Willamette’s southern operations are headquartered in Ruston.
